Outed Republican against LGBTI protections loses city council race in Indiana
Brent Randall has lost his race for a seat on the city council in Goshen, Indiana.
The Republican candidate Brent Randall was outed during the campaign when it surfaced that he has a profile on a gay dating site that he keeps active.
Last month shortly after Randall went on the record against amending the city’s civil rights ordinance to include sexual orientation and gender identity, he got outed.
Randall, 53, has confirmed that he has a profile on the site but said he does not consider himself gay or even bisexual.
He didn’t change his views on a hypothetical change to the civil rights ordinance saying he believes ‘in my heart of hearts that our gay and lesbian communities are protected currently under the law.’
‘I don’t know why they feel they need special protections when there are other categories that might need protections,’ he said last month. ‘My little experimentation over the last six years hasn’t changed my view on that.
In 2009 Brent Randall got divorced ,after being married with a woman for 22 years and insisted he has not met anyone on the profile.
Brent Randall and Democrat Adam Schart were both running for office for the first time.Brent Randall lost to Adam Schart 1,075 votes to 560.
